Mridangam player Balasubramoniyam / Sushama Unnikrishnan/ALIND

 Veteran mridangam vidwan and former principal RLV Tripunithura BALASUBRAMONIYAM, who enriched the world of Carnatic music with his sensitive percussive technique, passed away in Thanjavur in  Tamilnadu,India on 06.09.2020.

Balasubramaniam died on Sunday. He was the classmate of  late  Kumaran Nair Maman's (chief time keeper Alind)second daughter Sushama Unnikrishnan. He was 64. Death due to shortness of breath and subsequent pneumonia. When I posted a photo of Santosh Bhavan years back which was below the Kundara Elampalur police station, on Facebook, Balasubramaniam's posted a comment under it.   The comment was that I had come to this house too. My profile was public at the time. Not public now. Now no  Santosh Bhavan too.

When I noticed this comment, I had gone through his profile. He was not a small fish. Sushma was asked who he was. I also learned that he had played Mridangam for his classmate in dance/vocal programmes. Sent a friendship request. When I saw the news of the death in the daily, I checked my friend's list. He had not accepted the request. To be honest, I was shocked.  He is one year younger than me.  It was a life devoted only to art. He had gone from our sight but not from our heart. PRNAMAM.

THIRUVANATHAPURAM: The three-day ‘scholar in residence’ programme in mridangam led by mridangam maestro Trichy Sankaran at Sri Swathi Thirunal Government College of Music began here on Wednesday. In his address, Trichy Sankaran urged the students to make full use of the opportunity to learn the art from eminent teachers

Apart from students of Swathi Thirunal Government College of Music, students and faculty from RLV College, Tripunithura and Chembai Memorial Music College, Palakkad, are attending the programme. Mridangam Department professor M Balasubramaniam welcomed the gathering....his face book profile link

 ബാലസുബ്രമണിയം  ഞായറഴ്ച മരിച്ചു. കുമാരൻ നായർ   മാമന്റെ രണ്ടാമത്തെ മകൾ സുഷമ ഉണ്ണി കൃഷ്ണന്റെ   ക്ലാസ് മേറ്റ് ആയിരുന്നു . 64 വയസ്സ്.ശ്വാസതടസ്സവും തുടർന്ന്  ന്യൂമോണിയയുംകാരണം  മരണം സംഭവിച്ചു. കുണ്ടറ എളമ്പാളൂർ പോലീസ് സ്റ്റേഷന് താഴെ   സന്തോഷ്    ഭവന്റെ ഒരു ഫോട്ടോ ഞാൻ ഫേസ്ബുക്കിൽ ഇട്ടപ്പോൾ അതിന്റെ  താഴെ ബാലസുബ്രമുണ്യത്തിന്റെ ഒരു കമ്മെന്റ് വന്നു. ഞാനും ഈവീട്ടിലെ വന്നിട്ടുണ്ട് എന്നോ മറ്റോ ആയിരുന്നു കമന്റ്. അന്ന് എന്റെ പ്രൊഫൈൽ പബ്ലിക് ആയിരുന്നു. ഇന്ന് അല്ല.  സന്തോഷ്ഭവനും ഇന്നില്ല

ഈ കമന്റ് കണ്ടപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പ്രൊഫൈൽ  കൂടികടന്നു പോയി. ഇദ്ദേഹം ഒരു ചെറിയ മീൻ അല്ല എന്നുകണ്ടു.   സുഷമയോട് ഇദ്ദേഹം ആരാണെന്നു  അന്വേഷിച്ചു. ക്ലാസ്സ്‌മേറ്റ്ഉം ഡാൻസ് വായ്പാട്ടു മുതലായവക്ക് mridangam  വായിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട് എന്നും അറിയാന്കഴിഞ്ഞു.  ഒരു ഫ്രണ്ട്ഷിപ് റിക്വസ്റ്റ് അയച്ചു.  പിന്നെ ഒന്നും ശ്രദ്ധിച്ചില്ല .  പാത്രത്തിൽ മരണവാർത്ത കണ്ടപ്പോൾ ഫ്രണ്ട് ലിസ്റ്റ് ഒന്ന് പരിശോധിച്ചു . അദ്ദേഹം റെക്‌സ്റ്  അംഗീകരിച്ചിരുന്നില്ല   . അവിവാഹിതൻ ആയിരുന്നു.... കലകൾക്കായി ജീവിതം സമർപ്പിക്കപ്പെട്ട ആദരണീയനായ വക്തി.... അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് പ്രണാമം
